Learn Oil Painting with Graeme and Bridie
From Wednesday 14 October Graeme Calcott and Bridie Atkins will be at the Wellington Art Club from 6-9pm willing to share their experience with oil painting. They will provide useful hints, tips and techniques to help you start with oils, or develop your existing skills.
This session is also suitable for experienced oil painters to come and work in our well appointed art rooms.
If you are a complete beginner all materials will be supplied to get you started. Just pay $10 on the night by EFTPOS or bring cash.
- this is an informal group for either beginners or more experienced painters who wish to learn to paint in company in our well appointed clubrooms
- if you are inexperienced the teachers will give you some materials to get you started and advice on what to buy if you want to pursue oil painting
- if you are experienced bring along a project you are currently working on and our experienced artists will advise you
- no need to be a member of the club

2 Beginners cyanotype Workshops with CJ Piercey (Blue Lumin Prints)

Morning Session 10.00am to 12.30pm
Afternoon Session 1.30pm to 4.00pm
Cost: $60 per person per session
Come along and create your own unique cyanotype prints with multi media artist CJ Piercey.
All materials are provided.

What is Cyanotype Printing?
Cyanotype printing is an artistic printmaking process that creates Prussian‑blue images using light‑sensitive iron‑based solutions and ultraviolet (UV) light.
- Coat Paper or fabric is coated with cyanotype solution and allowed to dry.
- Arrange Botanicals, objects, stencils, or photographic negatives are placed on the prepared surface.
- Expose UV light from the sun or a UV lamp creates the image.
- Rinse The print is washed in water to reveal its distinctive blue tones.
What can you print? Leaves, flowers, ferns, feathers, lace, found objects, stencils, photographic negatives.
Why is each print unique? Variations in exposure time, sunlight, moisture, paper, and the objects used make every cyanotype one‑of‑a‑kind.

CJ Piercey is a multimedia artist based in the Hutt Valley, her creative work celebrates the beauty of nature, light, and experimentation.
Specialising in cyanotype printing and resin art, CJ creates distinctive works that blend traditional photographic processes with contemporary mixed-media techniques.
Working from her studio in the Hutt, CJ offers original artworks and hands-on workshops designed to inspire creativity in artists of all experience levels. Whether capturing delicate botanical forms through the timeless blue-and-white process of cyanotype or crafting vibrant resin pieces rich in colour and texture, CJ encourages others to slow down, explore, and discover the joy of making & learning.
With a passion for sharing knowledge and fostering creative confidence, CJ’s workshops provide a relaxed, supportive environment where participants can experiment, learn new skills, and create artwork that is uniquely their own. CJ also tutors at WEC in cyanotype printing and resin art.
Learn to paint Watercolour at Thurs Art with Charlotte
This block course of 8 hours tuition over 4 weeks costs $100, including materials for beginners.
Each session includes watercolour technique and a step by step instruction to complete a painting in the two hour session. There is always new lesson material for this block course each week. Charlotte uses an overhead camera projected onto a wall mounted 55 inch TV for easy viewing.
All levels are welcome to come and make art in our well appointed clubrooms. Bring your own paints and brushes and two sheets of A4 300gsm good quality watercolour paper each week. (I recommend Hahnemule Britannia)
If you are a beginner I will loan you the kit, which consists of palette, 6 brushes and paint and advise you what to buy at the end of the course. But you will need to bring your own 300gsm watercolour paper.
Tutor Charlotte Hird is a watercolour artist who teaches for Watercolour New Zealand, at Wellington Art Club and Wellington High School Community Education, Inverlochy Art School and various other locations around the country.
