Learn to paint Watercolour at ThursArt with Charlotte

This block course of 8 hours tuition over 4 weeks costs $100, including materials for beginners.
Each session includes watercolour technique and a step by step instruction to complete a painting in the two hour session. There is always new lesson material for this block course each week. Charlotte uses an overhead camera projected onto a wall mounted 55 inch TV for easy viewing and social distancing.
All levels are welcome to come and make art in our friendly clubrooms. Bring your own paints and brushes and two sheets of A4 300gsm good quality watercolour paper each week. ( I recommend Hahnemule )
If you are a beginner I will loan you the kit, which consists of palette, brushes and paint and advise you what to buy at the end of the course. But you will need to bring your own 300gsm watercolour paper.
Tutor Charlotte Hird is a watercolour artist who teaches for Watercolour New Zealand, at Wellington Art Club and Wellington High School Community Education, Inverlochy Art School and various other locations.
Please email Charlotte to sign up now for the July / August block course, and indicate which session you prefer to attend, 2-4pm or 7-9pm. Also let me know what experience you have. Beginners welcome.

Don’t fear the white page - making and filling a coloured paper sketchbook

Coloured paper is fun. In this workshop, you’ll make a simple coloured paper sketchbook, and then fill it up with drawings. We’ll explore a wide variety of mixed-media techniques and leave with a filled sketchbook and plenty of new ideas.

By the end of this workshop you will:

  • Be able to make a simple folded sketchbook
  • Feel more confident drawing with a variety of media
  • Be able to use coloured paper to enhance contrast and add depth to drawing
  • Have a systematic approach to mixed media drawing

Materials to bring

  • About a dozen sheets of coloured paper or card – A4 Size. A variety of colours is great.
  • Needle and thread to sew the book.
  • Craft knife and straightedge, and a cutting mat if you have one.
  • Heavier card for the cover of the book – cereal boxes or old manilla folders work well.
  • Bone folder if you have one, or a teaspoon will work otherwise! Scissors, glue stick.
  • Thick black pen (I like Tombow fudenosuke, but an 0.8mm fineliner is a good second choice)
  • Grey marker(I like the double-ended Faber-Castell)
  • Some kind of fine white pen, like uniball signo
Plus, whatever extra media you already have that you might enjoy using in the book.
